Overview
Everything I Wanted marks a new chapter for singer-songwriter Evan Honer, who spent 2024 balancing a move to Nashville, extensive touring, running his independent label, and recording new music. After achieving breakout success with his viral cover of Tyler Childers’s “Jersey Giant,” which earned over 200 million streams, Honer found himself reflecting on his rapid rise and learning to appreciate the present rather than constantly chasing the next milestone.
Recorded in a garage studio he built himself, Everything I Wanted expands beyond his Americana roots by incorporating indie rock, alternative pop, strings, horns, and other new musical textures. The album reflects Honer’s personal growth, exploring themes of gratitude, commitment, family, resilience, and self-acceptance.
Many of the songs are deeply autobiographical. “Maybe For Once” is both a love song and a promise to embrace life without overthinking. “It’s a Home” revisits childhood memories and family struggles, while “Place I Hate” examines the highs and lows of a growing music career. “Waiting Room” showcases his evolving songwriting through a concise love song, and “Curtain” serves as a heartfelt thank-you to the fans who have supported him.
Unlike his previous album, Fighting For, which was pieced together while touring, this record was created primarily at home with producers Garrett Hall and Shane Travis, allowing for a more focused and experimental approach. Influenced by artists such as Andy Shauf, Medium Build, and Pinegrove, Honer embraced collaboration and Nashville’s co-writing culture to push his music in new directions.
The album arrives after major career achievements, including more than 500 million streams, a gold-certified “Jersey Giant,” sold-out tours, and the growth of his label, Cloverdale Records. Ultimately, Everything I Wanted captures an artist who is evolving musically while learning to slow down, appreciate his success, and find meaning in the journey rather than just the destination.
