Organized by the creative advocacy agency GANGGANG, BUTTER is more than an art fair—it's a movement toward equity and cultural celebration. Since its inception in 2021, the fair has showcased the work of over 60 Black artists from Indiana and across the nation, all within the historic Stutz Building downtown. Unlike traditional art fairs, BUTTER ensures that 100% of art sales go directly to the artists, reinforcing its mission to support the economic viability of Black creatives.
The fair offers a vibrant, multi-sensory experience that extends beyond visual art. Attendees can enjoy live music, dance performances, spoken word poetry, and interactive installations. Features like Conversation Cove provide opportunities for guests to engage directly with artists and curators, fostering meaningful dialogue about art and culture WTHR. Family-friendly activities, including a Kids' Zone developed in partnership with The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, ensure that visitors of all ages can participate in the festivities WTHR.
BUTTER has garnered national attention, with The New York Times highlighting it as a blueprint for equity in the arts. Over the years, the fair has attracted more than 46,000 attendees and facilitated over $900,000 in art sales, with several pieces acquired by major institutions for their permanent collections .Visit Indiana+5butterartfair.com+5Axios+5
