General Info and Tips

The Indiana State Museum, located in White River State Park, houses more than 500,000 collected objects from the Hoosier state. Spanning three floors of permanent and changing galleries, the museum tells the story of the Indiana, and features a year-round calendar of exhibits, events and educational programs for all ages. Whether you’re interested in ice age paleontology, Indiana art, or well-known Hoosiers, you will be immersed into the rich history all around you. Top Exhibits:

  • Experience award-winning artwork from Hoosier artists in the 98th Art Salon. Works displayed in the show are available for sale. 

  • Discover the life and career of champion bicycle racer and Indy native Marshall “Major” Taylor.

  • Cardboard Engineering: Build a City is an interactive construction experience to add to an existing mural. 

  • IMAX Theater: Featuring academy award-winning IMAX technology and a six-story screen, IMAX Theatre offers audiences both 2D and 3D IMAX films, as well as contemporary Hollywood movies.

  • R.B. Annis Naturalist’s Lab: You're invited to explore Indiana’s natural history through your senses. Touch artifacts and specimens like rocks and minerals, animals and plants. 

Tips for Visiting: 

Tickets for the Indiana State Museum can be purchased online or at the Welcome Center. Tickets are $16 for adults, $11 for children ages 3-17, $15 for seniors 60+, and children ages 2 and under are free. College students with a valid ID from an Indiana college or university enter for $15. Combine and save on Indy’s top attractions with a 1-day or 3-day Indy Attraction Pass.
