Newly Renovated Museum

The green flag is out! The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is back on track after a thrilling $61 million renovation, completed in April 2025. Home to one of the world’s most impressive collections of race cars, including over 30 iconic Indianapolis 500 winners, the museum celebrates more than a century of heart-pounding motor racing.

Get closer to the action than ever before, from legendary race cars to unforgettable stories of speed, innovation, and victory. The newly revamped IMS Museum promises a high-octane experience you won’t forget, with a new 6,000-sq. ft. mezzanine level, educational exhibits, and experiences for race fans, including the can’t-miss Starting Line Experience with immersive sound and video. 

Location

The IMS Museum is located within the Racing Capital of the World, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Entry is accessible off 16th Street at the Turn 2 underpass via car. 

Featured Exhibits and Experiences

This gallery features seven garages, representing different eras of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, that highlight the stories of each time-period through cars, decor, and immersive audio and visual elements.

Get immersed in the heart-pounding moments before the Indy 500 begins—complete with front-row show cars, massive LED visuals, and the roar of engines. Watch a thrilling 7-minute film on an 80-foot screen that kicks off with the cannon blast and ends with the green flag waving.

See iconic cars from the 1911 Marmon Wasp to Dan Wheldon’s 2011 Dallara on angled platforms with enhanced lighting and signage. Peek into driver seats and take in the legendary Borg Warner Trophy at the heart of it all. Explore two levels featuring 29 winning cars.

Step into the action in the new Qualifying Zone. Test your skills with hands on activities like pit stop challenges, driving simulators, and strategy games. Explore what it takes to be a driver, crew member, or race strategist. With something for all ages, from a soft play area…

Explore the legacy of Team Penske in this interactive gallery celebrating Roger Penske and his legendary team. See historic race cars, iconic trophies, rare artifacts, and tributes to some of the greatest drivers in racing history.

Accessibility

New features include a wheelchair-friendly racing simulator controlled entirely by the steering wheel, and a wellness room designed as a quiet, private space for everyone—from nursing mothers to those with sensory sensitivities. The Museum is also partnering with Kulture City to become Sensory Inclusive™. Sensory bags, available at the Welcome Center, contain soundproof headphones, fidget toys, and glasses to reduce light. Signage throughout the building will highlight "headphone areas" for guests sensitive to noise. Accessible parking and facilities are available, and service animals are permitted. Additional Information

Tour schedules are subject to change without notice due to weather or track activity. Tickets are $25 for adults, $18 for children ages 6-16, $23 for seniors 55+, and children ages 5 and under are free. Combine and save on Indy's top attractions with a 1-day or 3-day Indy Attraction Pass. You can also add a track tour after your Museum visit. Track tours are $15 for adults, $8 for children ages 6-16, $12 for seniors, and children 5 and under are free. Walk-in purchases are welcome, but we encourage you to purchase ahead of time during the month of May.
