Mass Ave Arts District is home to scores of restaurants, unique boutiques, and entertainment venues. But the six-block hotspot isn't just for foodies. More and more, crafters and creators are findings ways to "make it on Mass Ave." From sewing classes to make-your-own-macarons, here are five ways to get creative.
Crimson Tate
845 Massachusetts Ave., Suite A
No sewing machine? No problem! Learn to sew at Crimson Tate, a contemporary fabrics, notions, and quilting store. The shop currently offers a "Six Weeks of Sewing 101" class, in which students learn how to make a pin cushion, pillowcase, zippered pouch, and tote bag. The $140 class fee includes a supply kit.
Homespun: Modern Handmade
869 Massachusetts Ave.
Homespun is a boutique, gallery, and workshop devoted to modern handmade goods. While they sell work from more than 300 crafters, they also offer the occasional workshop, called a "Crafternoon." On July 14, make an air plant holders from polymer clay.
Macaron Bar
425 Massachusetts Ave.
This much-anticipated sweet shop opens August 1. While geared toward carry-out, the shop will offer three-hour, intensive macaron classes! For $95, attendees will be able to take home all the French macarons they bake (usually around 24 per person). Seasonal flavors include toasted coconut, key lime pie, mimosa, and lemon lavender. Drool.
Mimosa and a Masterpiece
614 Massachusetts Ave., Suite B
Back in 2016, Indianapolis Monthly named this Mass Ave establishment as "Best Girls' Night Out." Today, Mimosa and a Masterpiece has more than 17,000 likes on Facebook and continues to guide you, stroke by stroke, through the painting process. So, grab your girlfriends and get those creative juices flowing! It's $35 per painter, with wine and mimosas running $5 a glass.
