Over the past few weeks, many of us have been experiencing a range of emotions that seem to govern our daily lives. I think it’s fair to say that many of us have felt anxious or apprehensive as we think about the future. Yet I believe we are all also living our lives more intentionally. We’re more inspired to dream for the future and reminisce on the past. Indy residents and visitors alike are aligning with our city – without even leaving your front door. And above all, Indy is feeling grateful for the men and women in our community fighting on the front lines of COVID-19.
Indy Goes Blue for Health Heroes
Tonight at 8 pm, the Circle City is sharing our gratitude for all to see. Many of our city’s most iconic landmarks, from our #1 rated airport to the heart of downtown, will alight in blue as part of a national movement to recognize our healthcare professionals. If you browse social media or look outside from your home this evening at 8 pm, you’ll see the city bathed in blue light emitted from:
- Lucas Oil Stadium
- Monument Circle
- Eli Lilly and Company Corporate Headquarters
- Indianapolis International Airport
- Indianapolis Motor Speedway
- Indianapolis Power & Light
- Butler Arts Center at Butler University
- Regions Tower
About #LightItBlue
#LightItBlue, an international movement that began in the United Kingdom last month, applauds our unrelenting health heroes bravely facing the effects of the pandemic.
“These healthcare professionals and first responders are truly heroes and Thursday’s nationwide celebration is an opportunity for residents to show their appreciation,” says Mayor Joe Hogsett. “As Indianapolis comes together and lights the community blue, it is my hope that Indianapolis also renews its commitment to staying home, staying safe, and easing the burden on frontline caregivers.”
How Can You Get Involved?
Because we are #INthistogether, make sure you are showing your support for our healthcare heroes within your home. Sport your blue clothing (Colts or #LoveIndy tees, for example) set a #LightItBlue sign on your window or doorstep, or decorate your home with blue streamers or balloons.
And, if you are able, go a step further and turn your outdoor lights blue!
The best way to share how you are joining the movement is via social media. Be sure to use hashtags #LightItBlue and #INthistogether to amplify your gratitude to our healthcare professionals.
Though we are social distancing, we are still one city, one city that will collectively offer a big “thank you” to those keeping our residents and future visitors safe.
