Being located in the heartland of the U.S., Indianapolis has bred its fair share of folk and Americana musicians over the years. Now, the city will appropriately host a brand new folk and Americana festival, in a venue that’s undoubtedly fitting.
Coming to historic Garfield Park on Sept. 22-23, the two-day music event Holler On The Hill has announced details and the lineup for its inaugural year. With 30 artists performing across three stages, the MOKB Presents festival will be headlined by critically acclaimed six-piece soul outfit St. Paul & The Broken Bones. Other notable acts on the lineup include Moon Taxi, Colter Wall, Amanda Shires, Jamestown Revival, Hayes Carll, Blitzen Trapper, John Paul White, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Jade Bird, Billy Strings, Jesse Dayton, Detroit Cobras, Otis Gibbs Band, Whiskey Wolves of the West, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Lera Lynn, Israel Nash, Emily West, and more.
Built on the notion that music festivals should attract groups rather than individuals, Holler On The Hill offers affordable ticket prices with a communal aesthetic. Described as equal parts neighborhood picnic, family reunion, and music festival, the event was designed to bring friends, families, and neighbors together for a smaller, down-home music experience. Fittingly, a portion of ticket proceeds will also benefit five community organizations including the Indiana Farmers Union, Indiana Forest Alliance, Hoosier Organic Marketing Education (HOME), Garfield Park Farmers Market, and Indianapolis Parks Foundation.
“When I first stepped foot inside Garfield Park’s McAllister Amphitheater, nearly 10 years ago, I wondered why this incredible space wasn’t hosting a great music festival,” said Josh Baker, founder and creator of Holler On The Hill. “I had this vision of a small but mighty gathering of diehard working class music lovers eating, singing, drinking together in a laid back family reunion-like atmosphere. With music as the centerpiece, Holler On The Hill provides a much-needed stewardship opportunity to support two causes I’m extremely passionate about: local agriculture and conservation.”
In addition to Holler On The Hill, several other exciting concerts are coming to Garfield Park’s McAllister Amphitheater this September. Other shows to look forward to include Father John Misty on September 21, The Revivalists on September 28, and BORNS on September 29.
