I love history - all kinds of history. I love music - all kinds of music. I love when all kinds of history and music collide. So it’s a natural outgrowth that I love the band Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox. Toying with a variety musical styles from the 1920s through the 1970s, a conglomerate of incredibly talented musicians take today’s hits and rethink them.
See what happens when they take “Cold Water” by Justin Beiber and Major Lazer and put an Appalachian “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou” bluegrass spin on it.
Or don’t miss how Hanson’s MMMbop gets a 1950s Doo Wop re-do.
Kelly Clarkson in the soul style of Aretha Franklin?
Madonna’s Material Girl with 1920s flapper flair?
Seriously, I could spend ALL Day getting vintage with PMJB on their YouTube channel. But in a handful of days, I get to see this ridiculously gifted group right here in Indy! On Friday, October 28, Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox brings their show to Clowe’s Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University at 8 pm.
Dust off your petticoat, coif your victory curls, bust out your best pinstripe suit, and get ready to go vintage Indy. You can pick your favorite era or you can just wear whatever you’re comfortable in (I’ll be channelling my inner 1950s housewife), but be ready for an amazing show filled with fabulous music that magically meshes decades, turning musical styles on their ear. Tickets are still available for music and history lovers just like me. Look for me in blue and white polka dots and red heels dancing the night away.
