There's nothing quite like a Fall Break getaway. Even if you and your family are planning on staying close to home this Fall, add some excitement to your autumnal vacation and visit Indianapolis for a weekend adventure. Some of the best hotels in Indy are participating in a special discount rate for Hoosiers, with up to 50% off hotel rooms for Indiana residents. So, if you are like me and looking for a reason to get out and join in, you can book that Fall staycation you deserve here in the Circle City. The best part – you’d be supporting local businesses and bolstering tourism economy here in Indy, eventually assisting the 83,000 men and women who depend on tourism for paycheck.

Parks, Playgrounds, & Trails

When you do visit Indy, chances are your hotel will be just a hop and a skip away from one of Indy’s 211 parks and playgrounds. You’ll finally be able to enjoy those outdoor spaces and stunning views you may have been craving after being cooped up at home this summer. Or, take a walk or bike ride on one of Indy’s many trails. The Monon runs all the way from downtown Indy to Carmel, and the Indianapolis Cultural Trail is one of the best ways to explore downtown. And, see the leaves bursting into a gorgeous array of color, fit for any scrapbook (or Instagram feed!).

Dining & Imbibing

Easily, my favorite thing to share with friends and family when they visit Indy is our stellar dining scene. I light up when someone I know from a different town asks for a dinner recommendation here in the city. Now, with many of our best restaurants offering dine-in service, patio dining, and takeout, there are a myriad of ways to experience the restaurants you’ve been curious about during your visit this fall. I have been going through my own list of must-try places, taking advantage of increased outdoor dining and carryout services. My suggestion: take a look at Visit Indy’s Outdoor Patio Dining guide to find the perfect culinary destination for your visit. Be sure to check out the Indy Craft Pass as well to find your new favorite brewery.

Museums & More

And, of course, a must for visiting Indy is exploring our many museums and cultural attractions. Check out the Edward Hopper and the American Hotel exhibit at Newfields, Barbie You Can Be Anything: The Experience at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, or Headless Horseman at Conner Prairie for one-of-a-kind activities to make this autumn memorable. Plus, in honor of the city’s Bicentennial celebration, we’ve drummed up a list of 200 only-in-Indy experiences for you to explore.

Reopening Safely

In my role at Visit Indy, I am amazed – though not surprised – at how well the city is mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and effectively reopening to allow local businesses to thrive. Indy is reopening safely following key guidelines set in place by the CDC; masks are required at all indoor businesses and outdoors where social distancing is not possible. Additionally, all participating hotels and many Indy businesses have taken the Hoosier Hospitality Promise, ensuring a consistent pattern of safety measures to give you and your loved ones peace of mind.
