Overview
Named "the biggest and boldest step by any American city" by Project for Public Spaces in New York City, this internationally-acclaimed 10.6-mile biking and walking trail connects all six of Indy's Cultural Districts. From Mass Ave to White River State Park and Fountain Square, the trail is a safe, healthy, and convenient way to explore the city.
The first expansion of the trail better connected the Indiana Avenue cultural district, connecting to the front door of the Madam Walker Legacy Center, while creating a new connection to the Fall Creek Greenway and White River Wapahani Trail. This expansion of the Cultural Trail includes 170,000 decorative pavers, 23 stormwater planters, 13 benches, nine bike racks, cultural interpretive panels, 8,950 perennials and shrubs, 78 trees, and a new traffic signal at the Paca Street, St Clair Street and Indiana Avenue intersection.
The South Street Cultural Trail expansion connects the Wholesale and Fountain Square cultural districts and increases and enhances access to near Southside neighborhoods, and the Stadium Village community to downtown Indianapolis. The new expansion creates a beautiful connection to key downtown landmarks, including Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indiana Convention Center, the Slippery Noodle Inn and the future White River expansion of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail.
Tours are offered each Saturday, April-October. Ride at a relaxed pace and enjoy this world-renowned bicycle infrastructure. Learn about the history of the Cultural Trail, the public art projects along the Trail, and the historic neighborhoods and cultural districts the Trail passes through.
