For most happy hours around town, a requirement of admittance is being human. That’s not necessary for Yappy Hour, a free pet-friendly summer event held at White River State Park.
White River State Park encompasses several attractions and destinations in downtown Indy, and while the park is dog-friendly, Yappy Hour is a special event for dogs to be pampered and for their owners to make new friends and have fun doing so.
During Yappy Hour, your leashed dog can explore the State Museum lawn in front of the IMAX Theater and get their nails done and teeth checked, gnaw on treats, maybe grab some obedience training, and more. Human companions can also enjoy live music provided by RadioNOW, yard games, and food trucks and drinks provided by Central State Brewing and Pinnacle Catering. If it’s too hot outside, pop into the IMAX and chat with reps to learn about SuperPower Dogs, a documentary showing at the IMAX about dogs going above and beyond being man’s best friend, taking on avalanches or assisting people with special needs.
“We’re very proud to have introduced and continue our Yappy Hour event series,” said Carolene Mays-Medley, executive director of the White River State Park Development Commission. “While White River State Park is home to many long-standing signature events, Yappy Hour is our very first WRSP-sponsored event, and we’re so thrilled to see the wide reception it has garnered.”
If you and your canine friend want to stop by and check it out, Yappy Hour takes place at White River State Park from 6-8:30PM on the fourth Thursday of each summer month: July 25, August 22 and September 26. Please keep your doggy pals leashed for the duration.
