Overview
Founded in 1984, Indy Reads is a 501(c)3 nonprofit serving adult learners and their families with English language and literacy, High School Equivalency, and job readiness programming. In addition, our community bookstore in Fountain Square hosts more than 150 community programs each year.
Independent: Our community bookstore sells used and new books for adults and children, and we can special order almost any book you can name! We also host pay-what-you-can programming, including author events, story times, workshops, and so much more. Check out our upcoming events at indyreads.org/events.
Non-profit: Indy Reads’ mission is to build the literacy, English language, and job readiness skills to empower adults and families to reach their full potential. One in six adults read below a fifth-grade level. Our Community Classrooms are tuition-free and serve 300 adults each year, helping them to improve their English language and literacy skills, prepare for their High School Equivalency exams, and improve customer service and paraprofessional skills. We are one of the only adult education providers in Indiana committed to serving the most beginning-level literacy learners, including those without a formal education above the sixth-grade level.
