World Food Championships - A Global Culinary Showdown in Indianapolis
Overview
Indianapolis will once again serve as the home of the World Food Championships (WFC), welcoming the world's largest Food Sport competition back to the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center for a third consecutive year. From October 15–18, more than 400 championship teams representing dozens of states and countries will gather to compete for over $400,000 in prize money and the coveted title of World Food Champion.
Since WFC relocated to Indianapolis in 2024, Indiana's culinary community has emerged as one of the event's biggest success stories. Local chefs have consistently excelled on the championship stage, including Cunningham Restaurant Group Chef Collin Hilton, who captured the Noodle Category Championship in 2024 before earning the overall title (and $150,000 prize) of World Food Champion in 2025. At the 2025 Championships, Indianapolis-area talent continued its impressive run as Circle City Sweets owner Cindy Hawkins claimed the Dessert Championship and Ivy Tech Community College instructor Daniel McDonald earned the Bacon Championship. Their success reflects the strength of Indiana's vibrant culinary scene and reinforces Indianapolis as an emerging destination for Food Sport.
The 2026 World Food Championships will feature ten championship categories, including Bacon, Barbecue, Burger, Chef, Dessert, Live Fire, Noodle, Sandwich, Seafood, and Vegetarian, while offering visitors far more than culinary competition. Fans can enjoy four days of live entertainment, chef demonstrations, interactive experiences, and exciting new attractions throughout the fairgrounds.
This year's expanded schedule includes qualifying rounds on October 15 and 16, followed by a full day of special events on October 17, including WFC Junior, the Stars & Stripes Military Challenge, the Redemption Tournament, the crowd-favorite Biscuits & Jampionship, the all-new WFC Burger Battle, the inaugural Dessert Smash, and the addition of Indianapolis Pizza Festival activity, bringing together some of the city's favorite pizzerias for a celebration of one of America's most beloved foods. Championship Sunday on October 18 will feature the Final Rounds in all ten categories as competitors battle to become World Food Champions.
Originally founded in 2012, the World Food Championships has been hosted in Las Vegas, Dallas, Kissimmee, Florida, and Alabama's Gulf Coast before finding a home in Indianapolis. Today, the event continues to grow as one of the city's signature culinary attractions, combining elite competition with unforgettable food experiences for visitors of all ages.
