WHY IS IT CALLED MUDSOCK? Back in the late 1890s and early 1900s, the community acquired the nickname of “Mudsock” because of the swampy nature of the soil. The ground was so muddy that residents would get stuck in mud up to their ankles, and their horses would have mud caked around their feet looking like brown socks. The name “Mudsock” became a nickname.
