Indy is Ready to Roll
With the launch of the Greater Indy Trailways, National Celebrate Trails Day, and the start of TrailMixer, April 25 is your sign to get outside, explore a new route, and see where the trail takes you.
There are three things you should know about April 25.
First, it’s National Celebrate Trails Day, an annual event that celebrates–you guessed it–our trails and greenways. Second, the Greater Indy Trailways launches on April 25, introducing a connected network of more than 800 miles of trails. Third, April 25 also marks the start of TrailMixer, a week-long celebration that brings it all together.
I’m not going to lie–I’m wheelie excited. (I’m sorry; I had to.) I have lived without a car for nine years and find my way around Indy via my own two feet, IndyGo, Pacers Bikeshare, and my personal, tried-and-true red bike. While I’m most familiar with the Cultural Trail, the Monon Trail, the White River Greenway, and the Pleasant Run Greenway, I’ll be able to shift gears and use The Trailways website to plan future rides and runs to places I have yet to explore.
The curated itineraries are one of the coolest things about The Trailways website. It’s like having an incredibly organized friend who has already mapped everything out. There are scenic strolls, routes that explore public art, and more ambitious rides. (Think 20- and 50-mile loops with well-timed stops and conveniently located snacks.)
TL;DR: Choose your vibe, roll with it, and have fun.
TrailMixer Festival
Speaking of fun, TrailMixer takes place April 25 through May 3 and features more than 50 activations across Central Indiana. On April 25, the Factory Arts District, The Amp, and the Monon Trail near Hotel Broad Ripple will anchor the day’s events. There will also be pop-up activations from The Shop, who will be giving away complimentary, customizable hats while supplies last. Curious to see what else is going on?
You can find the full list of TrailMixer activations here, including complimentary coffee along the Monon Trail in Carmel, bilingual yoga in Riverside Park, and a bird-watching walk in Avon. Personally, I’m interested in the Garfield Park Community Art Walk on April 26.
Like I said, I’m excited.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, a casual stroller, or someone looking for a new way to explore Central Indiana, there are routes for all interests, ages, and abilities. With TrailMixer bringing the energy and The Trailways connecting it all, there has never been a better time to choose-your-own-adventure. Once you get going, you’re not going to want to brake. Trust me.
