What is the Greater Indy Trailways?

The Greater Indy Trailways consists of 800 miles of multi-use trails and greenways linking communities in Central Indiana. This ever-expanding network stretches across nine Central Indiana counties–Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Morgan, Madison, and Hendricks–connecting locals and visitors to scenic corridors and regional destinations. Whether you’re biking, walking the dog, or heading out for a long weekend run, the Trailways offer a safe, welcoming, and empowering way to travel through our region.

TrailMixer Kick Off Festival

TrailMixer is a week-long festival celebrating the official opening of the Greater Indy Trailways, inviting residents and visitors to explore the city in a whole new way. With events happening all along the trails, from community celebrations and pop-up experiences to guided rides and walks, TrailMixer brings energy and connection to every corner of the network.

16 Tech Full Day Activation

Close out winter and celebrate spring at the last Indy Winter Farmers Market at the AMP at 16 Tech Saturday, April 25 from 9-12:30. You'll experience more than 60 restaurants, growers and retailers selling artisan goods and local produce, while celebrating community connections.

16th St and Monon Trail: Safety and Art Installation

We all know that crossing 16th St at the Monon Trail is less safe than it should be, especially for a crosswalk so close to O'Bannon Park and the nearby playground. On Saturday, April 25th a coalition of residents from four neighborhoods have been approved by Indy DPW to install temporary traffic-calming and street murals by local artists at E 16th Street & the Monon Trail crossing. This temporary project is a test run to better inform future, permanent safety improvements.

Stop by to see the installation in action and experience the new safer crossing. You can get involved by signing up to volunteer. Beyond the installation day volunteering, neighbors will be evaluating vehicle speeds before and after the installation, and observing yielding behaviors at the crosswalk.

B&O Trail Mixer and Branding Update

We will set up a tent next to the B&O Trail at our Tilden Trailhead. We will give away snacks, brochures and hats with our new B&O Trail logo. We will feature a large sculpture installation called Homeward. This sculpture was designed and installed by internationally recognized sculptor David Vertacnik. We will offer a guided walk with trail managers that will be about 3 miles round trip.

Beats, Flow and Balance on the B&O

Get ready to move, breathe and recharge near the beautiful B&O Trail! Beats, Flow and Balance is your chance to enjoy the outdoors while getting active with a unique mix of fitness and wellness. Join us for an energizing Pound class, a refreshing yoga session and a relaxing stretch class - choose one or experience all three. Whether you're looking to break a sweat, find your flow or simply soak in the fresh air, this event offers the perfect balance of movement and mindfulness in a scenic setting. *Bring yoga mats*

Beirgarten at the Fountains

If the fountains at Garfield Park could talk-they would have some incredible stories to tell. They have played backdrop to beloved city events and special personal moments for more than a century. Now the fountains are entering a historic moment. The Friends want to celebrate the return of this vibrant park treasure with "Biergartens at the Fountains." Join the Friends for live music, food and drinks in the Sunken Garden at Garfield Park. Walk, jog, run or ride by to rejoice in the return of the fountains at a free, family-friendly event and help to preserve the fountains for another 100+ years!

Bike Fest

Central Indiana Cycling, Greater Indy Trailways, CIRTA/Commuter Connect, Indianapolis MPO and Guggman Haus Brewing Co. are excited to host the 2nd Annual Bike Fest. We're combining our love for Indy, adventure, live music and community together to celebrate Bike Month. Expect multiple cycling vendors, cycling focused speakers, giveaways, live music, craft beer, coffee & food! New this year we are offering a pre-event social ride led by the Riverside riders (registration required for the ride). This is a free family event open to all.

Bike Rodeo: Learning About Cycling Safety

Did you know that most bicycle crashes and injuries are not caused by cars, but by the cyclist losing control of their bike? Washington Township Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Hendricks County Health Department to provide young cyclists with the tools for success and an opportunity to learn the skills to keep them safe on their bicycles, from the sidewalks to the trails. The parks' first bike rodeo includes a skill course, helmet and safety gear giveaways, and a certificate of completion for each participant.

Boone County TrailMixer

Join Discover Boone County for the 2026 Boone County TrailMixer on April 25th at LA Cafe in Whitestown, Indiana. Located just off the Big-4 Trail, this casual and welcoming event invites trail users, residents, and visitors to take a break, connect, and celebrate Boone County's vibrant trail culture.
Whether you're walking, running, or biking the Whitestown stretch of the Big-4 Trail, stop in to enjoy complimentary food and refreshments, meet fellow trail enthusiasts, and learn more about local experiences along the route. Attendees will also have the chance to take home fun giveaways while supplies last.
The TrailMixer is designed to highlight the importance of our trail systems in connecting communities, supporting local businesses, and enhancing quality of life.

Brownsburg Trail Passport

Explore Brownsburg's section of the B&O Trail with a self-guided Trail Passport adventure. Visit four stations along the trail, from the Hendricks County entry point at Raceway Road to the Green Street Trailhead, and answer fun trail-themed prompts that celebrate the places, people, and experiences that make our trails special. Scan the QR code at each stop to check in and enter a raffle while reflecting on where the trail takes you and who you share it with. Don't forget to snap a photo at the TrailMixer selfie station at the Green Street Trailhead! This free, all-ages activity is open throughout TrailMixer week and can be enjoyed at your own pace. Walk, ride, or roll your way through Brownsburg's trail story!

Celebrating 100 Years: Ride Smart Speedway

Speedway Parks is excited to unveil a Yarn Art Mural in celebration of the Town of Speedway's Centennial Year. After the unveiling, a Bicycle Safety Session will take place, followed by a Fun Ride around Leonard Park & the B & O Trail that connects to the park. There will be music and bicycle safety giveaways (while supplies last). Don't miss this opportunity to get out and enjoy the fresh outdoors, some exercise, and celebrate the Town of Speedway's 100 Years.

CIC Great Indy Trail Cleanup — Nickel Plate Trail Edition

Join us for our annual Trail Cleanup. This year, we are focusing our energy & impact on the newly opened Nickel Plate Trail from 42nd-Knue Road. Ride your bike, walk, or drive to the start at Windermere Center at 6225 Allisonville Road. We supply garbage bags, gloves, and a limited number of pickers, and you supply the manpower, motivation, and fun! Help keep our trail clean, then stay for a post-event party next to Fire & Ice Cafe! Coffee on the Monon

Spring is here-join us for Coffee on the Monon, Carmel's welcome-back event on the Monon Greenway! After months indoors, it's time to get outside. Cyclists, runners, walkers, scooter fans, and furry friends are all invited. Enjoy free Prufrock coffee, tasty snacks, and genuine Hoosier hospitality. Plus, pick up safety tips and bike education materials to start your season right. Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation will offer a limited number of FREE membership trials. Connect with neighbors and celebrate our community. See you on the trail!

FAD Bike Bash

Ride, relax, and celebrate at Factory Arts District's high-energy trailhead event where Indy's top trails meet art and community. Located at the intersection of the Pogues Run, Monon, and Cultural Trails, this vibrant stop invites cyclists and neighbors alike to park, explore, and soak in the atmosphere.
Enjoy free bike parking, quick tune-ups, rentals, a live DJ, food trucks, and family-friendly fun like a bounce house and interactive photo ops. The festivities also mark the closing of Indy Design Week, with open artist studios throughout the district, offering a rare chance to meet local creatives and artists that make FAD one-of-a-kind.

Fairyville

Explore the Fairyville Trail to find all of the amazing fairy houses made by local artists! Be sure to vote for your favorite. Sign up for a Fairy Tea Party, make fairy crafts, or enjoy fairy-themed entertainment and Earth Day activities along the trail. Magical fun for all ages!

Community walk to various art installations around the neighborhood with brief descriptions by the artist.

Indianapolis Cultural Trail Porch Party

Designed as a fun community gathering, the Indianapolis Cultural Trail Porch Party celebrates the Trailways kickoff and the connectivity the Cultural Trail provides to downtown and the central Indiana Trailways network. Held at ICT HQ, attendees can easily access the celebration via the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, enjoy the Glick Peace Walk, and access restrooms and a Pacers Bikeshare station. The festive atmosphere will feature music, family-friendly activities, and food and beverage bites, including a trail mix station! ICT staff and volunteers will be on hand to share information about the Cultural Trail, Trailways, Pacers Bikeshare, the IndyRides Free program, and ICT and TrailMixer swag. It's fun, festive, family-friendly, and free!

Indy 4‑H Bike Rodeo & Family Ride

Marion County 4-H will host an educational session on bicycle safety for youth at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on May 2 starting at 10:00 am. Participants will then put their knowledge into action by competing in a Bike Rodeo. The event will conclude with a social ride for families from the state fairgrounds up the Monon Trail for a special treat at The Clubhouse. The first 50 registered youth participants will receive 4-H swag and a free treat from The Clubhouse. All youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and wear a helmet. Indy Greenways, Greenways for All Plan

Visit the Indy Greenways booth at the Indy Mini Marathon Expo! Learn about the Greenways for All Master Plan-a bold vision to expand Indy's greenway network from 120 to 365 miles and bring 90% of residents within a half‑mile of a trail. Discover how community input shaped the plan, how new connections will link all nine townships, and how greenways improve mobility, health, equity, and daily life. Stop by and be a part of the excitement of the Greenways for All plan!

Kids Bike Repair Day

Bring your kid's bike to Brookside Park for free repairs, just in time for summer! We'll be fixing kids' bikes from 2 to 5 pm next to the Pogue's Run Trail. Limit one bike per child.

Ladies Weekend Getaway: Trail of Clues

The "Ladies Weekend Getaway: Trail of Clues" is a curated, interactive mystery walk designed to showcase the revitalized charm of downtown Lebanon, Indiana. It's part scavenger hunt and part social stroll, specifically tailored for groups of friends looking for an evening of discovery and adventure.

Millersville Placemaking, Conservation and Connectivity Fun along the Fall Creek Greenway

Welcome to historic Millersville, its gorgeous stretch of the Fall Creek Greenway & Trail from 56th St to Emerson Way, and the adjacent Village! Join in walks & talks or a bike ride to experience the exceptional community pride and creative place-making, conservation and connectivity progress made over the last 15 years by the all-volunteer Millersville at Fall Creek Valley community organization and its many supporting partners. Explore the woodlands between the Trail and Creek with conservation experts! See how amazing volunteers removed massive sections of invasives, planted sustainable native plants, and created cool trail-side gathering and recreation spots! See how safe connectivity has been improved, get ideas for exercising along the Trail, and finish with lunch in the Village!

Musical Trails at Brookside Park

Musical Trails at Brookside honors the park's legacy as a beloved neighborhood space while inviting new friends to discover Pogue's Run Greenway. We're activating the trail as a shared space for creativity, movement, and joy! This celebration features kid-friendly art activities, performances, and nature-based exploration. Join us at Brookside to hear local student musicians "busk" along the trail, create art to celebrate Earth Day, learn something new about nature's peskiest pests, and get info about Indy Parks' art programs and summer camps. This event is free and open to the public, all ages and accessible.

Neighborhood Night Light Ride

April 17‑, 6–10 pm

Freewheelin' Community Bikes and Tab Recreation will team up for a family fun night. The evening will have lots of family fun activities, including family-friendly bingo, games, soccer, pizza, prizes, and will conclude with a neighborhood night ride. A limited number of bicycles are available for rent, if you do not own a bicycle. Participants in the night light ride should be able to ride their bicycles independently. Bring your bicycle, friends, family, and your favorite lights and join the fun!

April 30, 5:30–8:30 pm

No Spandex Required: A Pacers Bikeshare Birthday Party and Ride

Join us for the kickoff of the No Spandex Required group ride series and a birthday celebration of Pacers Bikeshare! The ride will roll out from the Cultural Trail Headquarters at 5:30 PM for a 1-hr beginner-friendly loop that highlights Cultural Trail connections to the Central Indiana greenway network and nearby destinations. Bring your own bike or reserve a Pacers Bikeshare e-bike when you register. Adaptable bikes are also available with advance reservation. From 6:30-8:30 PM join us for a Pacers Bikeshare birthday celebration with food and drinks, music, and time to celebrate a milestone year of biking and trails in Indianapolis!

Pets on the Trail

Pets on the Trail is an inclusive walkathon where all people and pets of any size are welcome. Occurring on April 26th at 1:00 in the afternoon, the walk serves as a fundraiser for the Franklin Mayor's Youth Leadership Council (FMYLC), which will use the funds to install pet friendly water fountains around our tails. All who register are automatically entered into our free giveaway for an annual dog park pass and other City of Franklin memorabilia.

Speedway Running Club B&O 5K

Lace up and join the fun on the B&O Trail! Get ready for an exciting Fun Run/Walk heading west on the beautiful B&O Trail! Whether you're aiming for the full 5K or just want to move at your own pace, you're welcome to go any distance-shorter or longer-that feels right for you. This event is open to everyone-all abilities, families, kids, and even dogs are invited to join the adventure! After your run or walk, stick around to celebrate with refreshments, connect with fellow participants, and pick up a fun free item courtesy of the Speedway Running Club.

TESM Trail Games

Need a break before finals? Join TESM students in Taylor Courtyard for a fun, outdoor Cultural Trail-inspired campus event designed to help you relax, connect, and recharge near finals week. Stop by on April 29th from 11AM-2PM for lawn games, sweet treats, free TESM swag, and a casual space to hang out between classes. From cornhole to yard games, the courtyard will be transformed into an energetic drop-in space where you can take a break, meet other students, and enjoy the atmosphere. Inspired by the Cultural Trail and everything it represents -- movement, connection, and community -- this event celebrates one of downtown Indianapolis's most unique assets.

Trailmixer Festival on the Pennsy Trails

Pennsy Trails Spring Invasives Clean-up Join us for an invasive cleanup day along the Pennsy Trails at the 400W Eagle Station Outdoor Classroom. Our annual workdays are a way to involve the community in physical activity which will improve the local Pennsy Trails beauty and long-term sustainability. We will be cutting back and killing honeysuckle which will be in green bloom, clearing dead limbs and other vegetation from the trail, scouting for callery pear, autumn olive, and multifloral rose. This time also gives individuals who have not yet been on the Pennsy Trails a chance to understand its importance to the community, the types of physical activity it supports, and its relationship within the ever-growing cross-Indiana National Road Heritage Trail.

Trails & Tales @ Fishers Library

Celebrate the Nickel Plate Trail at the Fishers Library! Stop by the plaza near the Nickel Plate Trail/East Door to snag a free book and a bike lock, learn about the history of the Nickel Plate, and enjoy fun games and activities.

Westfield Green Day

Celebrate Earth and Arbor Day at Westfield's annual Green Day at Grand Junction Plaza! This free, family-friendly event features hands-on activities, local organizations sharing tips on sustainable living, and fun ways to learn about trees, soil, water, and protecting our environment. Kids can make a take-home solar oven for roasting marshmallows and create colorful UV pony bead bracelets, led by Westfield High School students. Plus, pick up a free native tree sapling-courtesy of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources-while supplies last. Come learn, explore, and grow greener together!
