Overview
Experience an evening of miraculous music at the historic Madam Walker Theatre as ISO Assistant Conductor Hannah Schendel leads the orchestra in a program celebrating vision, resilience, and joy.
The concert opens with the brilliant finale of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Novelletten, a whirlwind of energy from the brilliant British composer whose music bridged continents and cultures. Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 96—nicknamed “The Miracle”—follows, a masterwork that dazzled London audiences with the composer’s signature wit, elegance, and jubilant spirit.
In partnership with the Sphinx Organization—dedicated to advancing the careers of Black and Latino musicians—the program shines a light on bold contemporary voices. Valerie Coleman’s Tracing Visions moves from grief and trauma to a radiant call for community, while double bassist and composer Kebra-Seyoun Charles brings the stage to life with his own composition Nightlife, a genre-blending concerto inspired by the rhythm and pulse of city streets and clubs.
Join us for an evening of vision and vitality, where timeless classics and bold new voices create a miraculous experience.
