Overview
The Brewery District in Terre Haute is a historically significant area that once served as a hub for brewing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, it’s home to two active breweries: Terre Haute Brewing Company and Afterburner Brewery, both of which continue the city's brewing legacy. The district also features M. Moggers Restaurant and Pub and Stables Restaurant, which occupy former brewery buildings and showcase artifacts from the past, including tunnel access and the original horse stables used for transporting beer. Known as "Sin City" before Prohibition, Terre Haute's Brewery District was a vibrant center for nightlife and brewing, where Champagne Velvet beer was produced. The district also played a key role in the transportation of goods via the Wabash and Erie Canal, which was critical to the city's economy. Today, the Brewery District hosts the annual Haute Hops and Vines Festival, celebrating both its brewing heritage and its unique history.
