The Starting Grid for the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500
Coming off of a historic and drama-filled weekend of qualifications at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the grid of 33 is set and ready to go racing on Sunday, May 25, 2025 for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.

History was made this past weekend with rookie Robert Shwartzman becoming the first rookie on the pole position since Teo Fabi in 1983. Another rookie, Jacob Abel, with Dale Coyne Racing, was unfortunately eliminated from the last chance qualifiers on Sunday. One rookie, experiencing a career high while another experiencing defeat and heartbreak. This is a true testament to the highs, lows, and everything in between that can happen at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
On Monday, more drama unfolded as we learned that last year’s Indianapolis 500 winner, Josef Newgarden, along with his Team Penske teammate, Will Power, were penalized and moved to the back of the starting grid as a result of a failed tech inspection from Sunday’s round of qualifications.
