See Indy, One Mile at a Time
Get to know the sights along the Monumental Marathon route, then come back to explore after the finish.
On November 7, the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon turns 26.2 miles into a running tour of Indy. As you chase your goal, keep an eye out for the landmarks along the way. From downtown sports venues to stretches along the White River, this course gives you plenty of reasons to look up and take it all in.
Start your sightseeing with a venue built for big moments. Home to the Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium brings a little game day energy to your race. Return for a stadium tour or plan your next Indy visit around a home game.
Here’s a fitting sight for a Monumental run. The Soldiers & Sailors Monument anchors the heart of downtown and makes an unmistakable backdrop for your Indy experience. Come back with your medal for a photo worth framing.
Get a glimpse of Indy’s creative side as you run along Mass Ave. Colorful murals and historic storefronts line this diagonal downtown street, with local shops and restaurants giving you plenty to take in as you find your stride.
Your route also takes you past the Indiana State Fairgrounds, a gathering place for generations of Hoosiers. Consider this a preview of a future summer visit filled with fair food and a much more leisurely pace.
As a Butler graduate, I’d keep an eye out for this stretch. The university’s campus offers a glimpse of college life beyond downtown. Return to explore campus or catch a basketball game at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Take a mental note as you pass Newfields. This is one destination worth returning to when you have time to linger, with art and gardens that deserve more than a passing glance.
Trade downtown streets for river views as the course brings you through Riverside. Look for the Thomas Taggart Memorial along the way, and let the change of scenery help carry you toward those final miles.
On your return downtown, look for the Indiana War Memorial rising above the surrounding green space. After race day, revisit the area to learn more about the stories behind Indy’s monuments and memorials.
The Indiana Statehouse helps welcome you back downtown as the finish approaches. You’ve covered a lot of Indy by now. Once your medal is in hand, celebrate with a well-earned meal and start planning which sights you’ll explore next.
Your 26.2-mile tour of Indy finishes at White River State Park, where riverfront paths and downtown skyline views set the scene for a well-earned celebration. Snap a photo with your medal, reunite with your cheering crew, and take a moment to enjoy everything you’ve accomplished.
