Kid-Friendly High-Energy Activities in Downtown Indy
Downtown Indianapolis is bursting with kid-approved, parent-loved adventures just waiting for your family to discover!

Little Explorers (Ages 2-6)
Take your little explorers for a ride they’ll never forget on the Swan Boats at the Canal Walk! These adorable pedal-powered swans are perfect for little arms to help steer while older kids and adults do the pedaling. Every member of the family can enjoy downtown Indy’s skyline views from right on the canal.
While walking the canal, don’t miss the Colts Canal Playspace that boasts both traditional and nontraditional playground equipment to build muscles and engage the whole body in play.

For areas close to downtown Indy that offer tons of land to roam and interact with nature, take your small adventurers to Riverside Park or Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park at Newfields. Both offer a variety of interactive play spaces that are sure to help your little ones burn off energy.
And with more than 220 parks across Indy, there’s always a new trail, playground, or green space waiting for your little ones to explore.
Young Adventurers (Ages 7-12)
This age group will go wild for Wheel Fun Rentals where you can rent surreys (four-wheeled pedal carriages) and all kinds of cool bikes to explore the White River State Park in style.
If they’d rather cruise on the scenic White River, head over to Frank’s Paddlesports Livery Co where your crew can rent canoes and kayaks. No experience is needed for this active and fun excursion on the water!

Teens & Tweens (13+)
Your teens will love the freedom to explore with self-guided bike trails at White River State Park or the rush that comes from stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) at Frank’s Paddlesports.
Since no trip to Indy is complete without a visit to Monument Circle, take your teens to the heart of our city and time them as they race up the 330 steps to the observation deck at Soldiers & Sailors Monument. They can catch their breath while admiring the 360 degree view of the city from 275 feet in the air! Pro tip: Elevators are available for a small fee if you want to race them to the top.
