Indy food spots that are worth the wait
It’s a good time to be a foodie in Indy — if you’re willing to wait.
In 2022, “Food & Wine” magazine named Indianapolis one of 11 next great food cities in America — and since then, Indy’s food scene has continued to grow with new spots opening all the time. Most recently: Daisy Bar and Legacy Tokyo at the Factory Arts District, Three Dolls Cafe & Cakery on the Near Eastside, and Peidra at Bottleworks. If you want to dine with some of Indy’s best, good things come to those who wait. We’re rounding up a few of Indy’s top food spots that are worth the wait.
BODHI, 922 Massachusetts Ave.
This 21+ craft cocktail bar and bistro is focused on serving “authentic Thai food, amazing drinks, and impeccable hospitality” — but be prepared to wait. With a small, intimate space, BODHI books up quickly. The restaurant recently announced on Instagram that it's now accepting reservations, which it hadn't before. I highly recommend making a reservation, but if you don't, get there before the doors open at 5 p.m. There’s always a line forming at the door. BODHI will not seat your party until all of your guests are there, too.
Cafe Babette, 2627 Shelby St.
This hidden gem in Garfield Park bakes thick and gooey pastries, cakes, and sandwiches in a cozy setting. There’s no seating in the shop, and if it’s Saturday morning — expect to see a line that extends around the corner of the building. Pro tip: If you want to be able to skip the line, make sure you preorder your pastries ahead of the weekend. Make sure you check the bakeries Instagram and get your preorders in fast because they fill up.

The Eagle, 310 Massachusetts Ave.
If you’re in your 20s or 30s, you know The Eagle is a classic Mass Ave spot and a go-to choice for many. So just know if you’re arriving at dinner time on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, there will be a wait time. If you want to skip the wait, go on a Monday evening — or order online.

Bluebeard, 653 Virginia Ave.
This trendy farm-to-table restaurant is a James Bear Semifinalist, so you know it’s good. This restaurant has a menu that changes seasonally based on in-season products, so there’s always something new to try. This popular spot gets busy, so we recommend making a reservation.
Vida, 601 E. New York St.
Vida is the only restaurant in Indianapolis to earn AAA's coveted Four Diamond award, offering a fine-dining experience with coursed meals and wine pairings. This is a great spot that is worth waiting for a special occasion, like birthdays and anniversaries. Reserve a table.
