Indiana Repertory Theatre Season 2025-2026
The Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) will soon start their 53rd season, bringing to the stage tales of espionage, rock and roll, struggle, and compassion, as well as a holiday classic. The theatre, located at 140 W. Washington Street, is near a plethora of downtown restaurants perfect for a snack or dinner before the curtain goes up.

The season begins on September 16 with “The 39 Steps,” a comedic thriller adapted by Patrick Barlow and based on John Buchan’s eponymous novel released in 1915, and Alfred Hitchcock’s film adaptation in 1935. Four actors play upwards of 40 roles, including a mysterious fugitive and a handful of spies making their way through the UK. The play will be on the OneAmerica Financial Stage until October 12.
Holiday nostalgia takes the spotlight on the OneAmerica Financial Stage from November 15 to December 24 with Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” The classic story about greed and eventual redemption was adapted by Tom Haas and will feature all your favorite characters — even Ebenezer Scrooge!
The new year begins with August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” playing on the OneAmerica Financial Stage from January 27, 2026, to February 22. The characters congregate in a boarding house in Pittsburgh in 1911, learning how to navigate life in the North following the abolition of slavery. Wilson was a Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright and “Joe Turner” was awarded the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play in 1988.

The season continues from March 10 to April 4 on the Janet Allen Stage with “English,” a play by Pulitzer Prize winner Sanaz Toossi. The story follows four Iranian adults who are preparing for an English language exam. Aspirations include studying abroad, reconnecting with family, and general self-improvement. The award-winning drama looks at life unfolding beyond a strict “English only” mantra in the classroom.
The IRT’s season concludes with the American musical, “Come from Away,” which will celebrate its regional premiere on April 7 on the OneAmerica Financial Stage. The run will finish on May 10. The true story by musical artists Irene Sankoff and David Hein finds 7,000 airplane passengers stranded in Newfoundland following the September 11, 2001, attacks. Despite fear and tension, the assembled work to recognize kindness and compassion in their fellow travelers.
