Explore Indy for National Travel & Tourism Week
And just like that, the month of May is upon us—when Hoosiers and visitors alike eagerly await the sounds of IndyCars racing on the track, ice-cold drinks on sunny patios, and bike rides along the Monon Trail.
The energy that summer brings to the Circle City is undeniable—and it also marks National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), May 3–9, 2026—an annual celebration of the people and places that power travel across the nation.
Here in Indy, it’s a chance to recognize the 78,000 hospitality professionals and nearly 50 major attractions that help shape unforgettable visitor experiences and enhance quality of life for residents.
As this special week approaches, here are five reasons to explore Indy during #NTTW26
1. Hoosier Hospitality
Each spring, Visit Indy honors exceptional non-managerial hospitality employees and volunteers who go above and beyond in delivering outstanding service. On April 30, Visit Indy announced the winners of the 35th Annual ROSE Awards. With 82 honorees and six winners taking the stage, this cherished tradition shines a light on true Hoosier Hospitality.
2. Get Loud and Proud about Indy
Exciting news: Indianapolis has been nominated for USA TODAY’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice Award for Best Summer Travel Destination—and we’re aiming for that #1 spot. If you love Indy, help us claim this top accolade. Voting is open now through May 11, and you can vote daily: Vote NOW.
Summer in Indy is defined by high-octane moments and unforgettable experiences. Whether it's the 110th running of the Indy 500, the opening of the Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis (CAMi), or the launch of Central Indiana’s 800-mile trail network, Indy’s 2026 summer lineup is ready to top the charts.
3. Museum Must-Sees
Indy’s cultural scene continues to evolve, with something new for every interest. From Indiana State Museum's Indy A to Z, to The Children’s Museum’s Tiana's Joyful Celebration to Newfields’ Spring Blooms and the Eiteljorg Museum’s Cowboy Couture, there’s no shortage of can’t-miss experiences.
Aligning with NTTW, you can also be among the first to visit the Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis (CAMi) in Garfield Park. This free museum spans five-acre campus and features artist storefronts, a radio station, and six galleries showcasing rotating contemporary exhibitions—making it one of Indy’s most exciting new creative spaces.
4. Hit the Trails
The recently launched Greater Indy Trailways connects more than 800 miles across nine counties—perfect for biking, walking, or running while exploring vibrant destinations across Central Indiana.
TheTrailways.com is an interactive platform that helps you map routes near home or discover new trail systems to explore across the region.
5. Rep Indy with Some New Swag
In honor of NTTW, The Shop Indy is offering 25% off all INDY gear. The sale runs May 3–9 at TheShopIndy.com—perfect timing to stock up on local pride.
As you celebrate #NTTW26, take a moment to thank the hospitality professionals who make it all possible—because Indy wouldn’t be Indy without them.
