Celebrate National Pumpkin Day on October 26
Throw on a cozy sweater and grab your favorite seasonal latte–National Pumpkin Day is October 26! Here in Indianapolis, there is no shortage of ways to celebrate all things orange and autumnal. From coffee drinks to pumpkin patches to a forest filled with jack-o-lanterns, there’s pumpkin fun for everyone.
Espresso Your Love for Pumpkin
The classic PSL may be the drink that started it all, but Indy’s coffee scene takes it to a whole new level. Ascend Coffee offers a rich SPL (spiced pumpkin latte), while Red Door Cafe has a seasonal pumpkin chai latte. If you find yourself at Calvin Fletcher’s, order a Raven, which includes pumpkin, sage, and a brown sugar sauce you won’t find anywhere else. And over at Blackhouse Cafe, we suspect you’ll fall in love with their iced pumpkin pie lattes and pumpkin spice matchas.
Pumpkin Patch Things Up
Nothing says “fall” like a trip to the pumpkin patch. Tuttle Orchards in Greenfield is a must-visit with hayrides, a cafe full of treats, and a u-pick pumpkin patch. Beasley’s Orchard, located in Danville, also has u-pick pumpkins, as well as a sprawling corn maze and award-winning cider. For rural charm, head to Anderson in Mooresville. Their fried biscuits and apple butter will squash even the biggest of appetites. You can find even more family-friendly fun at Spencer Farm in Noblesville or at Stuckey Farm in Sheridan. Their 10-acre pumpkin patch and 37 apple varieties are worth the drive.
All Ale the Great Pumpkin
Local breweries and cideries are embracing the season with flavorful pours. Sun King Brewery’s Pumpkin Spice Latte is a blonde ale with coffee and pumpkin spice, while Guggman Haus’ Midnight Gourd Pumpkin Milk Stout is smooth and comforting. For something crisp, try Ash & Elm’s Autumntide, a subtly sweet cider that’s reminiscent of both apple and pumpkin pie.
As Sweet as Pie
Indy’s bakeries are also bursting with pumpkin perfection. The pumpkin pie danish at Amelia’s is simply delightful. But if you’re in the mood for a pumpkin hojicha muffin with brown butter chocolate and chocolate chip cookie crumble (and you know you are), head to Milktooth. Also on the menu: a Peanuts-themed treat at The Flying Cupcake called “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” And for a handheld slice of heaven, try Pots & Pans Pie Co.’s PSL Whoopie Pie. Every bite is a slice of heaven.
A Gourd Time at Harvest Nights
As the sun sets on National Pumpkin Day, head to Newfields for Harvest Nights. There, you’ll wander through fog-filled forests and the Pumpkin Path of Peril, which features tens of thousands of illuminated pumpkins. (Sounds gourdeous, right?) This year’s event also features a whimsical Fungi Forest, with more than 50 larger-than-life mushrooms. Wrap up your visit by popping into Mischief Manor.
