Celebrate Indy's rich international culture and diversity at this free-to-attend festival featuring international food vendors, music, sports and performers. The event will kick off the Y’s annual Welcoming Week festivities, Sept. 14-23, 2018.
“Our communities are stronger when everyone feels welcome and we work together for the common good,” says Amanda Moore, YMCA director of diversity, inclusion and global strategies. “The Y appreciates the many individuals and organizations that work to bring people together every day. They are helping us grow into stronger, healthier, more vibrant communities.”
The YMCA World Fest will connect people of all backgrounds in Central Indiana through food and fun. We’d like it to be one of the premier Welcoming Week events in the nation.
What is Welcoming Week?
Last year, 75 YMCA associations in 34 states hosted more than 800 Welcoming Week events nationwide to celebrate what unites us as a community. The YMCA of Greater Indianapolis hosted DACA Renewal Day, Day of Service and movie screenings, among other events.
Created by YMCA of the USA’s national partner Welcoming America, Welcoming Week, takes place each year in September, celebrates the growing movement of communities that fully embrace new Americans and their contributions to the social fabric of our country. It's a chance for neighbors—both immigrants and U.S.-born residents—to get to know one another and celebrate what unites us as a community.
This new event will complement the World Fair, a free, community event hosted by the YMCA's Before & After School program at Fishers High School for 14 years. Hundreds of students and families from across Central IN gather annually to celebrate diverse cultures while learning to appreciate and embrace others regardless of their background.
