Wild works of art will come to life as the Indianapolis Zoo hosts the Naturally Inspired Paint Out presented by The Great Frame Up Downtown.
The annual “en plein air” (outdoors) event will feature 15 juried artists creating extraordinary art inspired by the stunning natural surroundings at the Zoo and White River Gardens. Guests will have the unique opportunity to see through the artists’ eyes as blank canvases and hunks of clay are transformed into one-of-a-kind artworks.
Visitors are also invited to explore their creative side during hands-on guided art activities from noon-2pm, led by students from the Herron School of Art + Design at IUPUI. All Paint Out Day activities are free for members and included with admission.
After the artworks have dried, they will be professionally framed by The Great Frame Up Downtown before they go on display June 1-Aug. 22 in the Schaefer Rotunda at the Gardens. The show will also include several pieces created by some of the Zoo’s artistically inclined animals.
Zoo patrons will have the chance to own their favorite artworks when they go up for bid at the Naturally Inspired Silent Auction and Artistis' Reception in the Hulman Riverhouse. Guests will also enjoy an evening of hors d’oeuvres and wine as they visit with the talented artists who made these beautiful pieces.
