If you’ve ever stumbled into the massive 540,000-square-foot teal building on East 10th Street near Mass Ave, you know it’s the wildest maze of maker space with over 100 in-house artists, a cycling studio, a brewery, a distillery, and a soon-to-be spot called Fowling, where you can play football cornhole.
Every time I visit the Circle City Industrial Complex (mostly to pick up a pint of LICK Ice Cream), I find something new. My latest trip this past Saturday, continued to prove the validity of that statement, but I might go even further to say this is one of my best finds yet: Indy Fused Glass.
While devouring a scoop of French Violet ice cream, my friend and I peeked our heads inside a new art glass studio where we were greeted by Meredith, the artist and owner of Indy Fused Glass. Meredith quickly invited us to jump into her glass fusing class that was about to start. Not even knowing what that really meant, we were game to try something new. Taking a glass blowing class has always been on my wish list, and for a spontaneous afternoon activity, this seemed less of a commitment or perhaps a great first step.
The two-hour class teaches you how to safely cut glass and create a design on a glass shape of your choice. I selected an 8” x 8” glass square which, once decorated and molded in the kiln, would turn into a glass plate with raised edges. This is where I will tell you that, as a not-so-artsy person, I started the class with low expectations of what my finished product might turn out to be, but after picking up the plate two days later, I’m pretty proud of myself. So proud and excited over this new, cool spot in Indy, that I wanted to write a blog about it.
I’ve already called my mom to tell her next time she visits me in Indy, we’re going back. The class is a perfect girls outing, family activity, date night, or just an easy, fun, and casual creative outlet.

You can book as a group or individual and can often find themed glass design classes around the holidays. She says anyone from 10 – 110 years old can take the class.
For $40/ per person, you learn a new, fun craft and get to take home a finished art project.
