The L.S. Ayres Tea Room is open only during the winter holiday season.
There's no stopping a determined tea room. When downtown Indianapolis' L.S. Ayres department store shut its doors in 1990, the store's 85-year-old tea room simply waited a decade, then re-emerged in the new Indiana State Museum, where it continues to serve such traditional favorites as chicken velvet soup, Monte Cristo sandwiches and Hawaiian chicken salad.
