Looking for something fun and active to do with the kids this fall but short on cash? Don’t miss your opportunity to check out the all new outdoor experience at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

The Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience features 12 outdoor interactive opportunities for kids of all ages to learn and play. And during the month of September, you can visit on select nights for absolutely free. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 5 to 8 pm from September 7 through September 29, admission is free for kids to the all new magical exhibit. Adults pay only $5 to play outside. As you are making your plans, do note the blackout nights of September 14 and 21.

Sports LegendsDon’t worry! You won’t need to bring any equipment. Just wear close toed shoes and be prepared for lots of fun on the 7.5 acre complex. And bring your camera to capture the perfect shot of your little athletes in action.

What can you do when you visit the Sports Legends Experience? I’m so glad you asked. Here’s just a glimpse of what’s available:

  • Racing: Pedal your way to victory on a replica oval or dragstrip. Don’t forget to stop by the Pagoda to learn about Indianapolis Motor Speedway history. And don’t skip the opportunity to take your photo in the Winner’s Circle!
  • Football: Calling all future Colts! Practice your kicking skills, learn about famed Colts player Reggie Wayne, and run a few passing plays.
  • Basketball: Get your hoop on like Indiana greats Reggie Miller and Tamika Catchings. Whether you shoot free throws, practice passes, or dribble your way around the court, you can channel your inner Indiana Pacer or Indiana Fever.
  • Fitness Path & Track: Building a healthy life reaches beyond sport into everyday practices. Check out the Fitness Path & Track as a family. Be sure to learn about the running career of Wilma Rudolph. Run your race as a family.
  • Golf: Forget cheesy mini golf courses. Try your hand at 9 holes of miniature golf designed by Pete and Alice Dye. With four different courses to choose from (and a special course for toddlers, too!), you’ll find a way to sink that perfect shot.
  • Tree of Sports: Climb to the top and see all the great games from a bird’s eye view. Towering over 25 feet high, you’ll enjoy the breeze and the surrounding landscape.

Imported ImageDon’t forget to try your hand at hockey, tennis, baseball, and soccer, too! Then save time to visit the Avenue of Champions where you’ll find the stories and statues of 16 significant sports legends.

Fall is the perfect season of the year for a fun family night outside. What better way is there to spend time and not a whole lot of cash to memories than visiting The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
