Festival of Trees

450 W. Ohio St., Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, Indianapolis, IN 46202

This year’s extravaganza will feature a winter wonderland of 75 elaboratively decorated trees representing individuals, families and organizations from around Indiana. This year will feature the theme “Back Home Again” that will be seen and felt from the 30-foot centerpiece tree to decorative features and signage throughout the building. Select Tuesday evenings will offer extended hours for those who wish to see the trees by night.

Join us for:

  • Twilight Tuesdays with Hotel Tango (11/30, 12/7, 12/14, 12/21, 12/28)
  • Holiday Standards in the Cole Porter Room
  • Craft fun for the kids
  • Display from the movie “A Christmas Story”

While the mood is festive, there’s a friendly competition for which tree is the fan favorite, and each guest will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite tree. Visitors can also take part in scavenger hunts for The Elf on the Shelf throughout the building — watch IHS’s social media channels for hints on its locations.

As guests wander through the building, they can stop in the Cole Porter Room to hear holiday standards from Cole Porter’s era, and enjoy a virtual Story Time with Santa in Lilly Hall, presented by Citizens Energy Group. All exhibits will be open for guests, including the popular You Are There 1920: Celebrate Indianapolis!, You Are There 1927: Gennett Studio and You Are There 1915: Madam C.J. Walker, Empowering Women. Throughout Festival of Trees, the Stardust Terrace Café by Jonathan Byrd’s will offer extended hours and additional menu options, including holiday-inspired treats and tasty specialty beverages for both children and grown-ups.

While you visit, check IHS social media channels for clues to see if you can find

  • Hoosier Buddy the Elf - moves around until December 23
  • Weihnachtsgurken - 10 pickle ornaments hidden in trees throughout the building
  • Mensch on a Bench - appears during Hanukkah (November 30-December 5)

Cost: $5-$13.
