Concerts on the Canal this Summer

Indianapolis’ Downtown Canal is a prime time spot to unwind on a beautiful day in the city, whether you’re out for a picnic or simply strolling along the water. But what if these canal-side activities were set to a soundtrack of your choosing?

Free Concerts on the Indianapolis Central Canal
Once again this summer, the Indiana Historical Society presents their Concerts on the Canal series, giving music lovers a slew of opportunities to enjoy concerts while hanging out on the Canal. From smooth jazz to grooving ‘80s hits, the series will feature artists playing on Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm on the Historical Society’s Kruse Family Stardust Terrace. Food and beverage options will be available for purchase throughout the two-month concert series, which runs from May 25 to July 27.

Check out the 2017 lineup of concerts below. We’ve also included some other details worth noting before making your way to the Canal.

June 1 - In Tha Moment
June 8 - Big 80s
June 22 - Twilite Nites
June 29 - Cocktail Sax
July 4 - Indianapolis Municipal Band (There will be one performance for the Fourth of July Celebration)

July 6 - Deb Mullins
July 20 - Tuned In! (featuring David Mannell, Laura Hammer-Erhart, Becky Barton and Heather Hinton)

July 27 - Living Proof

Also, you'll want to remember these important tips when planning your next concert outing:
  • Attendees may bring their own food and nonalcoholic beverages to the concert. All alcohol must be purchased and consumed on site.
  • No pets and no smoking allowed on Terrace
  • Parking is available on a first-come basis.
In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be slightly delayed or moved indoors to the Frank and Katrina Basile Theater. If moved indoors, no food or drink will be permitted in the theater and accommodations can only be made for guests who have registered prior to the concert date.
